Preview

Another mouth contest on the way of all the cricket fans. England is leading the series by the margin of 1-0 in the three-match T20I series. Morgan and his men chased down an excellent total to win the 2nd match of this series, and now, Pakistan needs to win the final game to level the series at Emirates Old Trafford ground in Manchester on Tuesday, 1st September 2020.

Pakistan’s Team Preview

Pakistan needs to win this final match and end the tour of England on a good note. The visitors have already lost the Test series by the margin of 1-0. Their aim should be to win this last match as they would not want to go back home without a win under their belt on this whole tour.

Pakistan batted well after losing the toss on Sunday. The openers gave them a good start. But the momentum wasn’t carried by the middle order players. Apart from Skipper Babar Azam and Mohd Hafeez’s half centuries, there was no real contribution from Shoaib Mallik and Fakhar Zaman.

Even Azam, who batted so well during the power play overs, wasn’t there till the end. Mohd Hafeez was under pressure to take the team’s toll single-handedly. His knock allowed Pakistan to post a formidable score of 195 runs after their 20 overs were done.

In this do or die encounter, Pakistan will need a more significant contribution from Zaman and Mallik. Fakhar Zaman is a quality opener, and he has the experience of playing in England conditions. A lot is expected of Mallik. Now Mallik is not as young to strike the first ball out of the park-like his younger days.

Mallik needs time to settle down, and that is why the number 3 position for the former Pakistani captain is the right number he should bat. In the second T20I game, Mallik faced 11 balls, but he couldn’t get going in that match. He struck just one boundary and scored only 11 runs.

Pakistan needs to rethink about Mallik’s batting position for the last match of this tour. After the openers, Mallik should come to bat at the number three, and Mohd Hafeez should be followed after that.

The bowling lacked intensity as well. Just like the first test match, Pakistani bowlers gave easy runs to the two new batsmen. Shadab Khan gave them a vital breakthrough, and Haris Rauf kept the fight on for the visitors.

But rest of the Pakistani bowlers allowed the game to drift away as England’s Skipper Eoin Morgan and Dawid Malan got set and tuned the match in their favour with an excellent partnership of 112 runs.

Pakistan doesn’t need to makes changes as far as performance goes. They need to show more intensity in all the three departments of the game. The visitors lost the Test series because they had shown no power, and they continued to repeat this mistake in the second T20I game.

England’s Team Preview

England didn’t have a poor day with the ball. But they also didn’t expect the onslaught done by Azam and Hafeez, which put their bowlers under pressure. None of their bowlers had a decent economy rate in the second match of the series.

All the economy rates were higher in the last game. If England aims to win the series by 2-0 margin, they will have to sort their bowling issues. They should include David Willey in their squad fr the final match of this T20I series.

It was shocking that England dropped an in-form Willey from the first two T20I matches against Pakistan. David was in good form against Ireland in the ODI series, which was played before this T20I series. Willey’s inclusion will be vital for England for the series against Australia as well.

He can replace Lewis Gregory from the playing eleven. Lewis didn’t have to do much in the first T20I as it was washed out due to the rains. But he was expensive in the second T20 match of the series. He didn’t even bowl his full quota of four overs in that match.

With Willey’s incursion, England will have the luxury of having an experienced new-ball bowler, and he also has batting skills that can be used if needed. Willey is a bowler to which will cause difficulties for the Pakistani batsmen.

The batting looked decent enough to chase a sniff target down on Sunday. But the openers need to carry their form throughout the match. Banton has had a good series so far. He will be expected to provide such starts in the last game as well.

This game might be the last match for Tom Banton if Jason Roy is fit for the limited-overs series against Australia. Unfortunately, Banton will have to sit out and if Roy isn’t available. Then Tom should use this final opportunity to cement his place in the T20I side of England.

Johnny Bairstow also played a cameo, which allowed England to match up to the required rate. Despite not scoring much in this series’s first match, Johnny still stepped up in the series-deciding game and laid the winning foundation for England.

England was under pressure as they lost both of their openers the same score and in the span of two balls. Then it was Malan and Morgan who guided the hosts towards the victory line. Both the batsmen smashed their respective half-centuries and shared a match-winning stand of 112 runs.

Morgan was named man of the match of the second T20I match. He scored 66 runs to his name. But Dawid Malan won the hearts by staying unbeaten on 54 runs. The winning run came from Malan’s bat as he smashed his 7th T20I fifty from just 12 games.

Morgan and Malan make a good pair for England in the middle order position. But the batting form of Moen Ali is a concern as the spin bowling all-rounder is not that consistent. Ali was out for just a single run. Sam Billings can play the role of a finisher. He, too, guided England to a touching distance. Billings needs to use his IPL experience, which he gained from India’s MS Dhoni, to finish off the games in style.

Overall, England stands favorites to win the third T20 International match and the series by 2-0 margin. The hosts are a match-winning side already. But Still, they will have to pick David Willey in their playing elven.

Sony Networks will be the official broadcaster of this third and final T20 International match between England and Pakistan. The games can be seen on the Sony Six channel of the television set, and the live streaming is also available on Sonyliv mobile application.
