Preview –

The eighth match of the Indian Premier League season 2020 is played between the two teams who have lost their opening encounter of the 13th edition of IPL. KKR – Kolkata Knight Riders will take on SRH – Sunrisers Hyderabad at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma’s MI blew KKR in their first match, and SRH lost the battle against RCB which they should have won. Warner his orange army were in the game. But they lost wickets in clusters. The set batsmen like Bairstow and Pandey didn’t finish off the game for them, and that’s why they lost their opening encounter from a winning position.

Now both the teams will be playing their second match of the IPL 2020 season. SRH and KKR will hope to bounce back in the tournament. KKR has played already in Abu Dhabi once, and it will be the first game for SRH at this venue. Will KKR use this advantage and win their second game? Or can SRH script a win here?

Kolkata Knight Riders – Team’s Preview

KKR had an off day in the field. They didn’t bowl well which allowed Mumbai Indians to score big in their allotted 20 overs. Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and the Indian bowling unit were rusty, and they failed to shine against a powerful batting line up of MI.

In their second game, KKR will want their bowling unit to do the job of restricting SRH to a decent total. Pat Cummins had a good tour of England and Narine had a good CPL tournament. But both of these overseas bowlers were found out of rhythm in the last match.

Narine also failed to give a good, flying start which he gave for KKR over the years. KKR has discovered Narine as an opening batsman, and they need him to deliver with bat and ball like an all-rounder in this tournament.

KKR doesn’t have a quality opening batsman in their playing XI. In this year’s auctions, KKR released Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa who had done well for them. Lynn was terrific as the opening batsman, and Uthappa was the highest run maker for them in the middle order. But if required, Robin used to open the inning for KKR as well.

Now Lynn has been warming the benches of Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals have purchased Robin Uthappa for this IPL 2020 season. But Uthappa didn’t do that well in the middle for RR in the game against CSK.

With Narine as a senior opener, they will need someone like Rahul Tripathi at the top. Rahul played well for RPS – Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2016 and 2017 season. Rahul had opened the innings well for them, and that was also the reason why RPS reached the finals of the IPL 2017 season.

It will be a right opening combination if Tripathi and Narine open the innings for KKR. Both are professional openers who can give their team a flying start. Players like Shubnam Gill and Nitish Rana are middle-order players. They can’t face the new ball from Bhuvi and co. But it is upon Tripathi and Narine to give KKR a flying start in the first six overs.

Nitish Rana played well in the game against MI. But he couldn’t carry his excellent stroke play for a longer time. The same thing goes for Skipper Dinesh Karthik. He too timed the ball well like Nitish Rana. If both the batsmen would have converted their starts into 75 and more runs than they would have reached close to the target set by MI.

If Tripathi opens the innings with Sunil Narine, then the middle order of KKR will be deeper with Gill,, Rana, Karthik, and Morgan. Nitish Rana is the perfect batsmen to bat at number 3 with England skipper Morgan at number 4 and KKR skipper DK at number 5. KKR should be batting with this order for the next few matches.

Andre Russell can be the finisher with Shivam Mavi who can bat at number 7 for the Kolkata side. Both are good all-rounders, and the experience from Russell will help Mavi to improve his batting skills.

If KKR wants to change something, then they can drop Morgan and get a pacer bowling option of Lockie Fergusson in their playing XI. Cummins had an off day with the ball against MI. But his hitting abilities were a treat to watch. Ferguson can be lethal with the new ball, and he can also bowl in the death overs with Mavi and Krishna.

Sunrisers Hyderabad – Team’s Preview

SRH lost a match which they should have won. They were successful in restricting RCB to 163 runs after Devdutt Paddikal, and AB De Villers played magnificent knocks. SRH was in run chase even after David Warner was unfortunately run out for just six runs.

Johnny Bairstow and Manish Pandey’s counter-attacking stroke play kept the orange army in the game. But they should have seen off the one over by Yuzvendra Chahal. Instead of doing that, Pandey went for a big heave, and he opened the flood gates for a rare RCB win.

Manish Pandey and Johnny Bairstow are the culprits who caused the big collapse in SRH innings. At least one batter should have stayed till the end to chase the 164 run target. But the middle order of SRH needs a lot of think tank to do before their second game.

Priyam Garg, Vijay Shankar, and Abhishek Sharma are inexperienced to bat well in challenging situations.

SRH needs someone like Kane Williamson or Mohd Nabi in the middle order. Kane is SRH’s former captain. He led them in the final of the 2018 IPL season.

But Mohd Nabi is the more effective replacement to Michell Marsh who has been ruled out for the next few games. Nabi is a useful spin bowler, and his batting can help SRH to solve their middle-order woes. Including Nabi will also help Rashid Khan to come good.

Rashid Khan bowled his worst spells for SRH in their first game against RCB. First Paddikal and later ABD took on the lead spinner from SRH camp, and he went for plenty in that match. SRH will hope that the two spin bowlers from Afghans will help them to bounce back in this tournament.

If at all, SRH pick Nabi, then they don’t need the spin of Abhishek Sharma and pace bowling of Vijay Sharma. Wriddhiman Saha is another experienced batter who can bat in the middle order along with Mohd Nabi. Saha hasn’t played for quite a while now, and that’s the only concern regarding his place in the team. But Saha can do the job batting after Garg and before Nabi in the batting order.

Instead of Vijay Shankar, SRH can go with a pure pace bowler. Siddarth Kaul can be the handy replacement for Vijay Shankar who failed to deliver as an all-rounder.

The stats say that this encounter will be a cracker of a contest as SRH and KKR have fought a neck to neck battle. With both the teams want to win their first match of the IPL 2020 season, this contest should be great fun for the IPL fans.

Till now, SRH and KKR have played each other 17 times in this cash-rich league tournament. Kolkata Knight Riders have won 10 games, and Sunrisers Hyderabad has won 7 games so far.
