The match five of the Indian Premier League will be played between Kolkata Knight and Mumbai Indians. Dinesh Kartik, like the previous seasons, will lead KKR. But the new addition of the players like Eoin Morgan, Tom Banton, and Pat Cummins have made this encounter more interesting to watch.
MI – Mumbai Indians’ side had started on a poor note as they have always done. The four-time champion team will look to bounce back after their loss to Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2020 opening encounter. Rohit will want to correct his team record in UAE from this contest against KKR. MI had not won a single match in the United Arab Emirates when the first half of the tournament was held here in 2014.
Mumbai Indians Team Preview –
The defending champions of the IPL 2020 didn’t have a great start to the tournament. Their loss against CSK was an eye-opener for them in the first encounter itself. The MI batters started well against the pace bowlers of CSK, but once the spin was introduced, all the bowlers got flattered.
Mumbai Indians need a good start from Skipper Sharma and keeper De Kock. But they also want to capitalize on the good start given by the openers. The middle-order batsmen like Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya failed to deliver in the opening game.
The opening pair of MI is good, and the middle order batsmen of the MI team have quality all-rounders. Mumbai Indians have three best all-rounders in their team, which is an asset. But against CSK, they failed to push the score above the 180 run mark. The slog hitters of MI didn’t give the final push, that’s why they managed just 163 runs in the end.
The MI team will need significant contributions from the middle order. Pandya Brothers and Pollard are the ones who can take them to a high score in their clash against KKR. Rohit himself will also look for a better show after he scored just 12 runs in the first match.
Saurabh Tiwari played decently for 42 runs. Tiwari was the highest scorer for MI in their first match of the season. But instead of Tiwari, MI should look to include Ishan Kishen in the middle order. Kishen has been a permanent feature in MI’s line up. He can stroke it big in the middle overs, which can put pressure on the KKR bowlers.
With Yadav in decent touch, Ishan Kishen’s onslaught can take MI to a comfortable win position in the second game of this cash-rich league tournament. MI will also want Bumrah and the spinners to come good.
In the match against CSK, Bumrah picked up just one wicket after Pattinson and Boult got the opening batsmen out for a low score. Then the MI spinners also weren’t good as compared to the spin bowlers of CSK. Rahul Chachar and Krunal Pandya took one wicket to their name, but they weren’t lethal like Jadeja and Chawla.
MI can also think of including Jayant Yadav in place of Rahul Chachar, and another spin option for Mumbai Indians is their skipper himself. Rohit Sharma is a man who has taken a hat trick in the IPL. Hit Man achieved this feat when he played for Deccan Chargers in the first season of 2008. As of now, Rohit doesn’t bowl. But this option, too, is not bad for MI.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Team Preview
This match will be the first game for Kolkata Knight Riders, and they will hope to start their IPL 2020 season with a win. KKR will want their bowling to come good along with their batting.
In the IPL 2019, Kuldeep Yadav had an awful year, and that was also the reason why KKR didn’t do that well in the tournament last year. Kuldeep hopes for a much better season this time.
Kolkata’s batting scenario has changed for IPL 2020 season, there will be no Lynn and Narine as their openers for this season, and they will not have Robin Uthappa as well in their middle-order batting line up. But they have included Tom Banton at the top and Eoin Morgan in the middle order, which makes their batting looks so good.
KKR also has Pat Cummins in their squad. He was the most expensive player for them in this year’s auctions, which took place at Kolkata. KKR batting line up has Karthik and Russell to give the finishing touches to their innings. But still, it will be a tough ask to face Boult, Pattinson, and Bumrah when they come out to bat.
They have the bowlers who can restrict MI to a decent total, just like CSK did in their first match of the tournament. Prasidh Krishna, Kamlesh Nagakoti, and Sandeep Warrier will be Indian fast bowling core with the excellent Pat Cummins who can do the job for the side.
Kuldeep Yadav will be the lone spinner for Kolkata Knight Riders. But the question that will come to everyone’s mind is how will KKR include Narine in their playing XI? With only four overseas players, it looks difficult to make Narine play. KKR’s four overseas players will be Morgan, Banton, Russell, and Cummins.
Sunil Narine has been a permanent feature for KKR over the years. He can open the innings with Banton and his mystery spin bowling is a asset which will not be available for them this season. To include Narine, KKR needs to drop Morgan, Banton or Cummins from their playing eleven. But according to our prediction, KKR will go with Kuldeep as the lone spinner and they have Russell and Cummins as their spearheads.
According to the stats, Mumbai Indians have the upper hand in their clashes against Kolkata Knight Riders. MI and KKR have played 25 games till now, and MI has won 19 of them, whereas Kolkata has managed to win just 6 of them.
Mumbai Indians should go with full confidence in this match against KKR after they see this record. But when it comes to the team balance, Kartik’s KKR has a balanced team. Apart from the spinning option KKR has much better playing XI then Rohit’s Mumbai.
