The start of the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League has been good so far. Now we are on the tenth game of this cash-rich league tournament where Virat’s Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Rohit’s Mumbai Indians. It will be Virat Vs Rohit on Monday at Dubai International Stadium.
Mumbai Indians were simply superb against Kolkata Knight Riders in their last match. The defending champions bounced back nicely after they lost their first game against CSK. But there will be many concerns for Virat and his men from RCB after they lost against Kings XI Punjab in the last match they played.
RCB – Royal Challengers Bangalore – Team Preview
RCB won their first game against SRH in style. It looked like the 2020 season will be for RCB. But their performance against KXIP was poor that it looked like RCB are back to their old memories of the previous few seasons.
RCB has been at the bottom of the points table after reaching the final of the 2016 edition. After starting the tournament on a winning note, Virat and his men will not want to repeat their performance from the last few editions.
RCB are better off defending totals. They should bat first and defend a score as they did against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the last match, RCB were weak in all the three departments of the game. Skipper Kohli was the one who dropped two vital catches of KL Rahul, and due to that, the Kings XI Punjab Skipper scored a mighty ton.
There are concerns about bowling and batting as well. Dale Steyn was found struggling against Rahul and co. They needed to drop Umesh Yadav and Josh Philip from the last game, but they decided to give them one more opportunity. That was also the reason why RCB couldn’t keep their winning run going in this tournament.
Umesh Yadav has been leaking runs from the first game. Against SRH, he was not accurate with his line and length. Umesh was bowling way worth deliveries, which helped SRH in that run chase. Yuzvi Chahal brought RCB back in the game, and RCB won their first game by ten runs.
Josh Philip was promoted at number 3 after the early fall of Devdutt Paddikal. But instead of promoting him, Virat should have batted at number 3 position. Philip was out early in that match, and Virat Kohli also soon followed him to the pavilion.
Now RCB should pick Chris Morris and Parthiv Patel in their playing XI. Morris will provide depth in their batting, and his bowling skills will help RCB to restrict a mighty side like Mumbai Indians.
The inclusion of Parthiv Patel will help the middle order to come good. After AB De Villers, RCB needs a middle-order player in their playing eleven. The inclusion of PP will help RCB to get a better wicketkeeper than Josh Philip behind the stumps and a better batsman as well in the middle order.
There will be a lot of responsibility in the hands of AB De Villers again. He has been a rock-solid player for RCB in the middle order. In the first game, he scored a crucial half-century, which took his team to a defendable score, and he gave a good fight in the second innings. But he couldn’t do much as KXIP bowled well to bundle out RCB for just 109 runs in 17 overs.
In this match also, ABD should lead the batting chart of RCB. Virat Kohli is also expected to fire after he failed in two games. Likewise, Aaron Finch and Devduut Paddikal batted well against SRH. The opening batsmen of RCB are expected to replicate their performance from the first match.
In the bowling department, Yuzvendra Chahal is the only bowler who has made a good impression from the RCB side. The other bowlers like Washington Sundar, Navdeep Saini, Dale Steyn, and Shivam Dube, struggled to give their best performance.
Saini and Dube bowled decently in the two games played. But they haven’t been successful in giving the vital wickets for the team as Chahal did. The batting lineup of Mumbai Indians have a lot of big hitters, so RCB will need Chahal. But they will want the other bowlers to step up.
That is why Chris Morris is an ideal replacement in the bowling department. His inclusion in the playing XI will help RCB decrease their bowling woes, and his batting will allow them to set a defendable total in their 20 overs.
MI – Mumbai Indians – Team Preview
Rohit Sharma’s MI won the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. They bounced back nicely after they lost their first game against Chennai Super Kings. Against KKR, it was a special knock from Rohit Sharma, which took MI to a good score.
But the other batters like Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard will need to step up and push the score towards the 200 run mark. In the game against KKR, it looked like MI will score at least 200 runs on the board due to skipper Sharma’s brilliance.
But Rohit and Hardik fell quickly, which didn’t allow MI to score 200 runs in the end. Pollard and the Pandya brothers should give the finishing kick to the innings. They are the power hitters, and they have the hitting ability, which they can use to maximize the total in the end.
The bowling department of MI is good. They missed Lasith Malinga in the few matches. But Boult, Bumrah, and Pattinson did an excellent job in their last game.
The spin department of MI looks decent as well. Krunal Pandya will fancy his chances in Dubai International stadium where the boundaries are long. But Rahul Chachar has looked more impressive than Krunal in the first two matches.
Mumbai Indians have always had the upper hand against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 27 IPL matches played between these two teams, MI has won 18 matches, and RCB has managed to win just 9 IPL games so far.
These two teams met twice in the IPL 2019, and Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in those two matches. That is why MI holds a physiological edge over RCB.
